Resistor Calculator - easily find the resistor value from colour code

Very easy way to find value of resistor from its color code. Just select color according to your resistor color code and this calculator will automatically find its resistance. This calculator is capable to find value of 3-bands, 4-bands, 5-bands and 6-bands color code system. It finds the resistor's resistance, tolerance and ppm (parts per million).

How to find resistor's value using Groomix "Resistor Calculator"?

  1. First count the "number of color band" on your resistor which resistance value you want to calculate.
  2. Select "number of color band" from resistor calculator.
  3. Then observe resistor to find more color band side and turn resistor to bring more bands at left side.
  4. Now click on first band and select same color as on the first band and other band's color similarly.
  5. Click on "calculate" to get values of resistor
  6. It will  display resistance value, tolerance value and temperature values

Note: In 3-band type resistors, there is no tolerance band and and temperature coefficient bands and there is no temperature coefficient band on 4-band and 5-band type resistors

What is working of a resistor?

Resistors in electronics and electrical science is a component that opposed electric current to follow. And value of resistor, i.e. resistance is the capacity of resistor to oppose current to follow. Resistors are used to limit current value through a close loop circuit. By the working principle of resistor, resistors are used in circuits get various results like to devide potential (voltage), to lower the current follow, to discharge capacitor or inductor, to balance or control current and voltage according to need.

Where is resistor in a circuit?

Here is an example circuit containing a battery, one bulb, one switch and a resistor. This resistor will lower the follow of current through this circuit and the let to follow through switch and bulb.

What is meant by temperature coefficient of resistance?

The temperature coefficient of resistance defines the change in resistance as a function of the ambient temperature. The common way to express the temperature coefficient of resistance is in ppm/°C, which stands for parts per million per centigrade degree. In resistor color code, it is available on when number band in resistor is 6 bands. Last band indicated the value of temperature coefficient of resistance.
